Displays At Show

A display by members of the North Canterbury Amateur Radio Club will be a certain crowd-catcher at the show on Saturday.

The club was formed at a public meeting in February this year, and has since affiliated to the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters (the national branch for amateur radio), and is known officially among “ham” circles as Branch 68.

The president (Mr E. H. Gillman) says the display’s prime purpose will be to stimulate interest in what be describes as one of the most diverse and interesting hobbies known.

Amateur radio can, in many cases, become the gateway to a career in any part of the vast field of electronics, and as a hobby has no equal in the variety of different interests it provides.

It also provides the community with a group of semi - trained personnel available in times of emergency. “Hams” can set up and maintain emergency communications in a minimum of time.

The club invites all visitors t- inspect the display, and representatives will be available to answer questions.
