(N,Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Eighteen months ago, the Ashburton golfer, Miss B. A. Taylor, severely shattered her right knee in a motor accident and was told she might never walk properly again. Yesterday, she won her first major golf title by defeating Miss K. A. Wilkinson (Grange, Auckland), 4 and 3, in the final of the New Zealand Plate in the national women’s matchplay championships. The Marilyn Smith “Golfer of the Year” award made at the end of the championships, was won by Miss 11. Booth (Gisborne). It was based on points gained for performances at various tournaments during the year, ineluding the national championships. Miss Booth gained 162 points. Miss C. Sullivan (Avondale), 137, was second, and Miss J. Hanratty (Wellington), 130, third.
