SHAREMARKET WEAKER BUT PETROLEUM MAKES 45c
The New Zealand sharemarket weakened further yesterday, with falls again exceeding rises by three to two. Some leading issues firmed, however, and New Zealand Petroleum new stood out with a 45c gain to 285 c, a rise of 65c since Monday. Turnover was moderate.
South British was strong also, recording a 12c increase to 562 c, but all other movements among the leaders were marginal, except for Tasman Pulp which lost 20c to 1280 c. The firm secondjlne stocks included Carbonic Ice and T. J. Edmonds, up 10c to 435 c and 420 c, Trans Holdings new, up another 5c to 275 c, J. J. Niven and Skellerup, up 5c each, and Dickinson-Robinson, which made 4c to 121 c in its second trading day. Ivon Watkins Dow, John Burns and New Zealand Farmers’ Fertiliser stood out among the weaker issues, all with falls of sc. R. A. Brierley rights also lost sc, falling to 25c.
B.H.P. gained 40c to 1670 c on the overseas list when the ex dividend allowance is made, end Beach fully paid added another 20c to trade at 350 c. Bounty closed 1c down at 12c after active trad-
