Caulfield Cup Field 28

<N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright! MELBOURNE. Twenty-eight horses remained in the field when final acceptors were declared yesterday for the <55,000 Caulfield Cup to be run on Saturday. The field as it stands is eight above the safety limit. Of the 28 final acceptors, 17 bave qualified to start. The New Zealand horses, Honour Me and Shantung, were scratched at Waikato yesterday morning but the official form has not reached the V.A.T.C. This will bring the final acceptors down to 26.

The final 20 runners and their barrier positions will be declared tomorrow. In Sydney yesterday morning, the Epsom Handicap winner, Brokers Tip, put in his claim for the Cup when he ran one mile in Imin 46sec, but it was his time for the last six furlongs. Imin ISsec, that had the track-watchers double-checking their stop-watches. His trainer, H. Riley, said: “I could not have asked for a better cup trial.” The four-year-old left for Melbourne last night with the New Zealand horse. Nausorl. The Cup favourite, FHeur. tbriled bis connections with a brilliant mile gallop at Flemington racecourse yesterday morning. Moving effortlessly through his work, he ran the mile in Imin 45|sec, the last three in 394 sec.

His trainer, C. Hayes, said he did not expect Fileur to go nearly as fast as he did. “We just sent him out for a solid hit-out, but he Is so fit and healthy, he has run a winning gallop,” Hayes said.
