LONG WAIT FOR UNIFORMS
Girls’ Brigade members were having to wait from six to 12 months for uniform material from New Zealand mills, the annual meeting of the brigade’s national council was told in Nelson. Orders for awards and insignia far exceed the overseas licence available to the organisation. “This tends to take the shine off an energetic youth movement,” a report from the meeting said. But in spite of the frustration of waiting for uniforms, awards and insignia, reports showed that the new brigade programme was taking shape well throughout New Zealand, the meeting was told. The council meeting opened with addresses by the retiring national chaplain (the Rev. E. R. Sherburd)
and the retiring national commissioner (Mrs 0. Scott). The meeting was attended by 88 council members, who represented all regions throughout New Zealand.
The new Girls’ Brigade constitution was completed and would be printed soon in book form with a new officers’ handbook. A girls’ magazine was being given a trial run, the report said. The monthly bulletin for officers would be continued.
Officers elected: national chaplain, the Rev. G. G. Carter; national commissioner, Mrs E. V. Roscoe; national executive, Mesdames M. Tear, J. McKechie, M. Marshal, E. Clemons, A. L. de Lavent, J. Dyson. Misses J. Tasker, and L. Howard. Pacific fellowship officer, Miss H. Hageh; isolated brigaders officer, Miss M. King.
