RETIREMENT NEXT YEAR

Labour Party Secretary (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 13. The secretary of the Labour Party, Mr A. J. McDonald, is to retire next year, according to party sources. His successor is expected to be named at the party’s annual conference in Wellington next year. Mr McDonald has been secretary since 1947. He has kept out of the limelight, and his greatest strength within the party has been his ability to smooth < over troubles in electorates. He is a noted bowls administrator and will manage the New Zealand team at next year's Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.
