LEADING ISSUES EASE IN STEADY SHAREMARKET
Rises just headed falls on the New Zealand sharemarket yesterday, but the notable movements were among second-line stocks. Leading issues were easy, and steady sales dominated the moderate trading.
Trans Holdings recovered 10c to 275 c to join T. J. Edmonds, up 10c to 410 c, at the head of the market, and Tonka added 6c to trade at 188 c. The other four issues which reflected demand in significantly higher prices were John Bums, Manthel, New Zealand Fanners’ Fertiliser and P.T.Y., which all closed 5c
up. Tappenden and Wilson Cement were also firm. The easy leaders included all the J. Wattie and N.Z. Forest Products issues, but fails were moderate with the exception of Rothmans, which fell 6c to 210 c. Skellerup Industries lost a further 10c to 940 c. There was little trading in overseas issues, but Bounty Oil firmed to 13 and B.H.P. made 20c to close at 1640 c.
