NEWS MEDIA CRITICISED

‘Protection’ Of National (N.Z. Press Auociation) AUCKLAND, Oct 9. News media protected the National Party from all sorts of blows, Mrs Kirk, wife of the Leader of the Labour Party, told about 160 members of the women’s branch of the Labour Party in Auckland yesterday. •The cost of living was spiralling, but the news media protected the National Party from the blows caused by this, she said. If anything controversial was coming up the press ran small articles on it, so that when it finally came it was no longer a shock. "If these things happened under a Labour Government there would be a terrible outcry,” said Mrs Kirk.
