USTER LEADS

Casper Has Trouble (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON. J. M. Lister, of Timaru, New Zealand’s brightest professional golf prospect since R. J. Charles, shot a two-under-par 70 and finished one stroke ahead of the American, W. Casper, after the first round of an exhibition match at the Lochiel course yesterday. Heavy rain just before the round began left water lying in large puddles on the greens and affected the play considerably. However, Lister birdied the second and third holes to take an early twostroke advantage. The top amateurs, E. J. McDougall and B. A. Rafferty, accompanied the two professionals. At the turn Lister was three under, Rafferty two under, McDougall all square, and Casper, who had difficulty finding his touch on the greens, was one over. Improved weather brought a better performance from Casper, and on the homeward nine he steadily whittled down Lister’s lead. McDougall and Rafferty finished with one-over 735.
