Stapletons Road Traffic

Sir, —At the corner where Stapletons Road enters the Richmond shopping area I have had several “narrow squeaks” over the last few months. I suggest that traffic i lights are much overdue. Dur- [ ing peak hours many motor- . ists seem to be in a quandary . and rely more on courtesy : than on a knowledge of traffic i regulations. At present there , is not so much as a “Give i Way” or a “Stop” sign, and ;to my thinking something 'should be done before there

is a major accident.—Yours, etc., i 45 YEARS DRIVING. I August 22, 1969. < [Mr J. F. Thomas, the ■ Christchurch City Council , traffic superintendent, replies: “Stapletons Road is a T ' intersection at the junction , with North Avon Road, and all traffic entering the inter- ! section from Stapletons Road ' comes under the righb-hand , rule. With North Avon Road traffic on a straight-through . course and having absolute , right-of-way, it is difficult to . understand how confusion ■ could arise. Existing conditions at this intersection j would not place it on the priority list for traffic lights, ; but the need for a ‘Stop’ or ‘Give Way’ sign will be in- ' vestigated.”]
