Old Silk Route

V Z.P.A.-Rfuter —Copyright) KARACHI, August The first two caravans in modern times to use an ancient silk route between Pakistan and China’s Sinkiang province will carry goods worth more than 4,000,000 rupees ($8,572) under a trade deal between the two countries, reliable sources said. The caravans are expected to leave shortly. They will exchange Chinese silk cloth, thermos flasks and milk powder for Pakistani cotton cloth, jute bags and shoes. The route was reopened under a trade agreement signed by the two countries in October, 1987.
