Herefords To $925 At Blenheim Sale

BLENHEIM, August 27.

Prices for beef-bred bulls were disappointing at the Marlborough Pedigree Beef Breeders’ Association’s annual show and sale at Blenheim today.

Of 19 Aberdeen Angus bulls offered, 13 were sold at auction for an average of $546, and from an offering of 25 Herefords only 15 were sold under the hammer, the average being $5lO. The tone of the sale possibly reflected the feed conditions in the area, and after a very good sale last year, some potential buyers might have made their purchases privately, as the strength of the sale was only a quarter of last year’s sale. The yarding was of a good standard, and included some bulls from vendors who usually sell at Dannevirke. The Hereford catalogue was better than last year's entry, but competition was lacking. Aberdeen Angus culls sold to JS-M for one of two entries from G. L Hocquard. It had been awarded the first placing in its section before the sale. One of six bulls from R. P. Waddy fetched the second top price of $7OO. The second and third prize-winning bulls, both from A. L. Ferguson, Ltd. of Seddon. both realised SSOO. Herefords sold to 5925, this being paid by the Summerlands Station for the grand champion of the show offered by J. F. Cooper. Ltd. The Glenfield Hereford Stud, which showed the second prize-winning Hereford. received $9OO, and another bull from J. F. Cooper. Ltd, fetched 1715.
