AUTHORITY’S CRITICISM

Kaiapoi Town Planning

Objections will be made by the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority to the Kaiapoi Borough Council’s proposed town - planning I scheme, and a meeting will be arranged between the author- : ity and the council to resolve as many of the difficulties as i possible.

This decision was reached at a meeting of the authority yesterday, when the Director of Planning (Mr C. B. Millar) submitted a critical report on the Kaiapoi scheme. The scheme, he said, permitted continued ribbon commercial development on the Main North Road, and should consider the consolidation of suburban centres to the northeast and south-west of the mam centre. There was no policy as to whether growth the north Kaiapoi industrial zone should

be from the industrial zone east or west <rf the domain, or from both, and no reference was made to proposed residential densities, or to the encouragement of the filling-in I of the present urban zone.
