Tree Tops In Keen Gallop At Awapuni
"The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH Tree Tops was the most Impressive of the Wanganui ■ candidates to gaitop at Awa* ■ pttni yesterday Htornin* but I his form is hardly inspiring for the F. F. Newman Handicap. Awapuni stables are not strongly represented on the first day of the Wanganui meeting
and as a result there was not much to interest in yesterday's gallops.
On the inside trial Tree Tops ; beat Paddy's Escort by a wide ■ margin over seven furlongs in i Imin 34 3-Ssec, the last three lin 39 4-ssec.
Tree Tops worked very freely. He was unplaced at the Carterton meeting and had his last Win in the New Zealand Hack Stayers' Plate at Carterton last year Royal Guest and Royal Rye ■completed six furlongs in Imin 20sec, the last three in 40 3-ssec. . Royal Guest raced as a hurdler Jast time out. at Hastings in (June. He is the type likely to [ be well suited by the conditions of the Intermediate Mile at | Wanganui.
Royal Rye will race in the : Putiki Hack Handicap. On the course proper, with the trestles well out. Bell Sierra completed six furlongs strongly in Imin 23 3-ssec. She ran on at the Carterton meeting and could be one of the best light- , weights in the F. F. Newman Handicap. Palamos was better than Chilli Bean at the finish of a mile in imin 56sec. the last three in 42 4-ssec. Palamos has been most disappointing in his races.
