PRICES RISE, BUT LITTLE HEAT IN SHAREMARKET

Prices rose in a cautions sharemarket yesterday, when rises outnumbered falls three to two and leaders were generally firm. Steady prices dominated the trading, however.

Exceptions among the leaders were Rothmans, down 3c to 222 c, and Now Zealand Insurance, which lost 2c to 428 c, although South British continued its elimb with a 2c gain to 545 c. Other rises were topped by Alex Harvey’s 3c hop to 439 c. Rhesm showed strength in the market with an 8e riso to 148 e, while Coulls added another 7c to close at 302 c and Winstone traded 10c up at 450 c. Other movements were mostly marginal, although Tonka fell 4c to 181 c during the day and Sanford lost the same amount to close at 108 c. Amalgamated Batteries added sc. There were few sales on the overseas list. Western Mining lost 50e to sell at 1270 c.
