Record Drug Hauls

The United States Customs Bureau has reported a “phenomenal rise” in seizures of marijuana in the United States in the last year and said demand for the drug seemed to be constantly increasing. The bureau reported a record in seizures of heroin, cocaine and marijuana in the year ending June 30, 1969. The largest increase involved marijuana. Some 6231 b of the drug was confiscated, a rise of about 325 per cent from the previous year. —Washington, Aug. 25.
