Book Cover Contest
Entries were of a high standard in the Book Cover competition held by the Christchurch New Zealand Library and Book Week Committee, said one of the judges, Miss J. McLaughlin (Teachers’ College Library. The response was pleasing and entries were particularly good in the Standard 4 to Standard 6 section, she said. However, it was felt that some children overlooked the fact that the book cover i should fit the book concerned jand include jacket copy and i detail of publisher, she said. The winning entries will be on display during the school I holidays at the children’s ■ section of the Public Library. I Winners of the competition ; were:—
r Post Primary.—Graham Jones (Linwood H.S.) and Sees Bruin (Linwood H.S.) (equal) 1, Bobin Parkinson (Avonside G.H.S.) 3. Primary.—Junior standards 1-3: Carol Maicb (St James’ School, Aranui) 1. John Dennehy (St Teresa's. Puriri Street) 2, Janet Gallavin (Villa Maria) 3. Senior standard 4-6: Rosemarie Freeman (Heaton Int.) 1. Maureen Gallagher (St James’. Aranui) 2. Chris Weaver (Manning Int.) 3. Highly commended were Stephen Ellis (Heaton Int.), Buth Livisone (Linwood Int.). Lynda Macefield (Manning Int.), Linda Withing. ton (Heaton Int.). The judges were Miss M. Ruddle (Education Department, art and craft section), Miss McLaughlin and Mr W. Moore (Primary Schools' Library Association), who judged postprimary and primary juniors only)..
