MOST PRICES STILL STEADY IN QUIET SHAREMARKET

The overseas list weakened on the New Zealand exchange yesterday, but local shares were predominantly steady, with a slight easing perceptible among second-line issues. Again trading was moderate, particularly in Auckland.

The few notable movements that stood out in the market included a 13c rise to 238 c in Rothmans stock, an 8c gain to 258 c for John Bums notes, and falls of 10c for Motor Bodies and T. J. Edmonds, to 110 c and 410 c, and 8c to 40c for Grace Bros.

Canterbury Frozen Meat and Waitaki Freezing were both firm, with rises of 3c and lc, National Insurance lost 5c to 435 c, but N.Z.I. and South British each added another lc. Strong sales included Marac and PTY Industries, while Consolidated Brick, Skellerup and Industrial Gases sold down.
