Hunger Walks
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 20. Hunger walks involving up to 100,000 people will be held in 55 cities and towns on Saturday. The walks have been organised by young people to assist with overseas development projects and to encourage more overseas aid. The director of the United Nations Youth Against Hunger Campaign
in New Zealand (Mr A. Arnold) said in a statement today that the response to the scheme had been staggering. “It is expected that some of the larger walks In main cities will have more than 5000 participants, and some small towns appear to have almost the entire population walking,” he said. Mr Arnold said that all registered walkers aged between 12 and 70 would be insured on the 20-mile treks.
