Space Saved In N.Z. House
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) LONDON, August 19. The earning capacity of New Zealand House in London will soon be increased by more than £70,000 annually as a result of a review of office space carried out within the High Commission.
In future High Commission staff will occupy up to and including the sixth floor and one suite of offices on the eighth floor. Three and a half extra floors will then become available for letting. Once these floors are let nine floors, of an average size of about 3800 sq. ft, will be under lease at rates of more than £5 a sq. ft. Existing clients include “Newsweek,” Martini Rossi, the World Bank, Eastern Airlines, the “Washington Post”
London bureau, and the Naranda Sales Corporation of Canada, Among the new clients.will be Tonga. A commissioner from the Pacific island is to take a small suite of offices on the top floor, from which there is one of the most desirable views of the city. The suite is now being used by agricultural staff of the High Commission. They will move into offices on a lower floor.
The review of space showed that economies could be achieved by consolidating staff; into the lower floors and making greate- use of available space on them. Among the departments affected by the reshuffle are Defence and Publicity. The former is to be consolidated on one floor —its staff is at present spread over offices on three floors—end the latter is to be brought down from the tenth floor.
