Junior Tennis To Hold Trek
As the Canterbury Junior Tennis Association will be required to help financially with the reconstruction of the hard court area at Wilding Park, it will hold a sponsored trek early in November. This was decided at the annual meeting of the association when it was reported that a profit of $907 was shown, compared with $412 the previous year. This was attributed mainly to a profit of $393 from the shop at the park which has been run by the Junior association and which is at present being rebuilt by it. The chairman (Mr R. F. Hampton), In his annual report, said that membership had increased by 235 and that the season’s tournaments had shown substantial Increases in entries. Mr Hampton referred to an early effort this season to bring more into the game—a two-day coaching clinic by the association’s x professional, Mr S. F. Clarke, next Monday and Tuesday, especially for those who have played little before or who may not have played. Officers were elected as follows: — Patron, Mr A. C. Felton; president, Dr. W. J. Smith; vicepresidents, 13 were elected: management committee, Misses J. Cromb, G. Freear, Mesdames R. E. Dunner, A. W. Direen, D. R. James, R. H. Moore, Messrs R. Burn, P. Andrew, D. D. Brading, R. B. Brown, K. A. Chapman, S. F. C. Clarke, H. Dillon, F. R. Hampton, A. Kent, K. Mong, I. Sandets, A. Shaw.
