EXPORTS TO FIJI
Display Centre Abandoned (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SUVA (Fiji), Aug. 20. A scheme to give New Zealand manufacturers a permanent display centre in Suva has been abandoned because of lack of support. A company formed in ; Auckland in February, New . Zealand Products Fiji Display i Centre, Ltd, leased office space in Suva. The company | offered a full export service. Between 300 and 400 manufacturers were offered space in the centre, sales representation and other services at a cost of $lOOO a year and 5 per cent commission on sales. The company’s managing director (Mr Desmond Elliott) said that the initial response had been favourable. But after four months only a handful had made a definite decision about taking up the offer. A possible reason for the failure of the company, the secretary of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association (Mr J. Whatnall) said today was that most New Zealand firms preferred to do their own marketing and commute themselves to a place as close as Fiji
