SEA CADET DISPLAY
Exhibition At Simmer
An exhibition of naval relics, models, charts, photographs, armaments, souvenirs and ships’ ensigns will be held at T.S. Cornwell, Sumner, during the week-end. The exhibition has been arranged by members of the Sumner-Redcliffs sub-branch of the Navy League and the Sumner-Redcliffs Sea Cadet Corps to raise funds to assist the repayment of a loan raised to provide the training launch Cornwell, which was launched last October. On both days of the exhibition, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Sunmer lifeboat Rescue 11, the training launch Cornwell and several jet boats will give boat rides on the Estuary. Shipping companies, the Lyttelton Harbour Board, the Sumner Lifeboat' Institution, the Royal New Zealand Naval Board, the Canterbury division of the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve and the R.N.V.R. Veterans' Association, as well as many individuals, have provided material for the displays. The exhibition will also mark the twenty-first anniversary of the formation of the Sumner-Redcliffs Sea Cadet Corps, originally known as the Sumner Sea Training Unit. The unit became a subdivision of the Canterbury Navy League’s Sea Cadet Corps on August 12, 1948.
