Repayment Of Debt
(HZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 15. The Government would next week repurchase 518.5 m of the amount owing to the International Monetary Fund, the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) said today. Mr Muldoon said that because of a continued improvement in the country's overseas reserves, it had been decided to repurchase the equivalent amount outstanding in respect of the credit; tranche. This, added to earlier repurchases, meant that 5107.1 m of short-term borrowing from the fund would have been repaid, leaving only S3sm, equivalent to the gold tranche, outstanding. “With the full repayment' of our borrowing of 544.7 mi from the Bank for International Settlements, New Zea-! land is now in a strong posi-l tion to face the future,” Mr! Muldoon said.
