Golf Club’s Anniversary

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, August 15. The Timaru Ladies’ Golf Club celebrated its seventyfifth anniversary this week. A highlight of the celebrations was a parade of fashion showing the costumes worn by women golfers of earlier years.

A life member, Mrs J. C. Tempter, who joined the club in 1908, recalled the days when players rode bicycles to travel to Timaru from outlying districts, or who completed part of the journey by coach or on foot.

The president of the club (Mrs T. G. Lister), traced the history of the club, which opened for men only in July, 1894. Two years later a women’s committee was formed, and in 1899 the women formed their own club.
