Settlement Reached
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 15. The Auckland fishermens dispute has been resolved in talks between officials of the Federation of Labour and the Auckland Provincial Employers’ Association. After their meeting this morning the parties issued a joint statement, but would not give details of the settlement. The statement read:— “The position of the parties has been resolved and a full statement will be made on Monday following a meeting of the Auckland Fishermen’s Association.” The association was represented by its secretary (Mr H. F. Gallagher) and the vice-president of the Auckland council of the F.O.L. (Mr A. Russ). The Auckland Commercial Boat-owners’ Association was represented by an Employers’ Association official, Mr D. E. Stewart. The dispute, which has caused a fish shortage in Auckland over the last five weeks, was over the abolition of the sliding-scale payment for catches.
The fishermen wanted the system scrapped. The boatowners did not. "■
