Parliament’s Diary

Three new measures were given first readings when Parliament resumed yesterday morning. They are the By-elections Postponement Bill, the Police Offences Amendment Bill, and the Cinematograph Films Amendment Bill. A private member’s measure, the Fire Safety Bill (Mr J. Mathison, Lab., Avon) was given a first reading.

Papers tabled included the annual reports of the Tourist and Publicity Department. the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation, the National Roads Board, and the Geraldine Licensing Trust. Twelve questions were answered by Ministers.

The House continued with the debate on the second reading of the Family Benefits (Home Ownership >- Amendment Bill until 4 p.m., when it rose until 2.30 p.m. on August 19.
