U.K. STEEL STRIKE

100,000 Tons Already Lost (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PORT TALBOT (Wales), Aug. 15. The production of more than 100,000 tons of steel has been lost because of the seven-week unofficial strike by blast furnace workers at Britain’s largest steelworks at Port Talbot, belonging to the Nationalised Steel Corporation.

There is still no sign of a settlement of the pay dispute, and car manufacturers, Britain’s greatest users of steel, are considering buying supplies from overseas. The Ministry of Power, the Government department responsible for the steel industry, announced today that it had. approved a capital development programme for the industry next year involving £losm.
