Russians To Tour N.Z.
Two Russian women, members of the 30mmember Soviet Women’s Committee, will arrive in Christchurch on September 9 to begin a week’s tour of the country as guests of various national women’s organisations.
The women, Olga Chechetkina, a journalist, and Zoyal Zabrunia, a philologist, have been invited by a Dunedinbased organisation, the Voice of Women. The secretary of the organisation (Mrs Violet Bailantyne) said yesterday she had received a cablegram from the vice-chairman of the Soviet Women’s Committee conflrmitig dates arranged for the visit. Mrs Ballantyne was a guest of the Soviet women’s group in 1967 at an international conference held In Moscow. “We hope our Soviet guests will git the opportunity to meet and talk with as many New Zealanders as possible,” Mrs Ballantyne said. The two women will visit Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Nelson, Wellington and Auckland before leaving for Australia on September
The Voice of Women, whose aim is to promote international good will and
understanding, represents groups bearing a similar name in more than 60 countries throughout the world.
The Dunedin group is negotiating at present for a visit to this country of the Russian woman cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova.
