SALE OF LIQUOR
Trust Control Sought (N.Z. Prett Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. A national referendum on trust control of the liquor trade at the triennial poll would continue to be the aim of the New Zealand Alliance, it decided at its annual meeting today.
The alliance issued a statement from the meeting regretting that the Government had made no move to replace the unsatisfactory three-issue (continuance, prohibition, State purchase) ballot paper, and saying that the alliance would continue to press for a national referendum on trust control. The alliance resolved to concentrate for the November poll on an educational campaign on the dangers of alcohol, while recognising that the present poll gave an opportunity to protest against “continuance of the present licensing system.”
