Hammer Springs

Sir, —The businessmen and the Amur! County Council are to be commended on their successful efforts to keep the Hanmer Springs thermal pools open and their intentions of improving them. As a resident here for 30 years I have seen with satisfaction this little village grow into a very nice little town. We have a much larger and more stable population. Families no longer have to leave as children grow up because of no high school or chance of employment when schooling has finished. Ido believe all this has been accomplished because our unique South Island hot pools and snowy mountains have been discovered and the good roads make it such a’ pleasurable outing for just two hours travelling away from the bustle of a large city to the clear mountain air, tranquility; and healthful, relaxing thermal waters. We really have something to offer here.—Yours, etc., PROGRESS.
