PLANS FOR TREK

Aid To Needy Countries Members of Parliament and New Zealand pop stars would take part in the national “miles for millions” trek on August 23, said the chairmanconvener of the Youth Against Hunger Campaign (Mr J. S. Hollander). About 50,000 persons throughout the country were expected to take part in the trek, including about 4000 in the Christchurch area. Each person would be sponsored at so many cents a mile. The money raised would be used in helping underdeveloped countries in such ways as financing youth training centres, Mr Hollander said. Pop stars who would take part in the trek included Ray Colombus, Shane, and the groups, Dedikation, Tom Thumb, and Revival. Throughout the country 43 walks were planned, 10 of which would be in Canterbury. Trek committees had been formed at Timaru. Methven, Cheviot, and other places, said Mr Hollander.

In Christchurch the trek would begin from the Ferrymead Historic Park at 10 a.m. and would follow a route up the Bridle Path, along the Summit Road and down the Rapaki Track, finishing at the Heathcote Community Centre. Canterbury scouts have been urged to support the trek. The Blue Skies training centre organiser (Mr J. R. Young) said that every scout should take part
