Accident On Stage

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 6. A member of the cast of the Black and White Minstrel Show suffered slight concussion when she was struck by a falling batten during a matinee performance in His Majesty’s Theatre today. The dancer, Mrs Merrilyn Gray, aged 23, of Australia, was taken by ambulance to Auckland Hospital, where she was treated and discharged. One or two other dancers were hit when an end of the 46-foot batten fell to the stage during the last part of the opening sequence but they were saved from injury by wire casings in their headgear. Mrs Gray’s headgear also protected her from serious injury. The batten was not being used for the show.
