Houston Menu

The education officer of the Canterbury Museum (Mr J. H. Johnson) has a menu for a day in the life of American astronauts, Mr N. Armstrong, Colonel Aldrin, and Colonel Collins, at present in quarantine. It wu sent to him from Houston by Mr E. B. Friend, one of the executives of the firm under contract to feed the astronauts, the Stouffer Restaurant-Inn Division of Litton Industries. The menu is headed “No. 6" and the front of it carries a picture of the Apollo 11 badge—an eagle holding an olive leaf landing on the moon. Inside, is marked “Apollo 11 Lunar Receiving Lab. Crew Reception.'*' For breakfast, the astro-' nauts were offered apricotnectar or orange sections, eggs (any style), crisp bacon strips, toast and butter with jelly or jam, French toast with maple syrup, assorted dry cereal, and assorted pastries. Lunch was cream of tomato soup, grilled ham and cheese sandwich, “dill pickle spear,” escalloped chicken and noodles, spinach with egg garnish, hard roll and butter, carrot-raisin salad, and spice cake. Chicken consomme headed the dinner menu, followed by boneless short ribs, au gratin potatoes, buttered green peas and mushrooms, stewed tomatoes, tossed* green salad, choice of salad dressing, corn . bread with butter and Pecan pie. Each menu ended with “choice of beverage," but the choice was not detailed.
