League Tour Changed
Marist - Western Suburbs, which on August 24 will meet the winner of Saturday’s match between Addington and Hornby in the Canterbury Rugby league club grand final, has altered its Australian tour itinerary to comply with domestic competition dates.
The tour was shortened two days when it was discovered that the Thacker Shield match, between the club champions of Canterbury and West Coast, was scheduled for September 14, the date that Marist-Western Suburbs had arranged to play Western Suburbs in Wollongong. Should Marist - Western Suburbs be Canterbury’s shield representative it will go to Greymouth for the match and fly to Australia on Monday, September 15. During its tour it expects to play a St George (Sydney) XIII in addition to the Wollongong game. The shortening bf the tour was necessary because travel arrangements had to be completed before the grand final, said the organiser (Mr P. R. H. Brown) yesterday. A telephone call to Wollongong enabled Marist-Western Suburbs to alter its previous arrangements and it will now meet a Western Suburbs XIII before the Illawarra league’s grand final on September 21.
