Protest In Tokyo
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) TOKYO, August 6. About 10,000 students, teachers and trade unionists arranged a rally and demonstration in Tokyo last night, in protest against a bill which has granted the Government wider powers in controlling university campus disputes. The demonstrators gathered in a park in the centre of the j city to denounce the new university law, which was forced; through the Upper House of! the Parliament on Sunday without debate, The law authorises the Government to close down a university when a dispute has remained unsettled after a certain period of time. As the protesters passed by Parliament House they demanded an immediate dissolution of Parliament and a general election. Several thousand riot police stood by, but no clashes were reported.
