ADDINGTON MARKET Buoyant Demand For Prime Lambs; Best Sell To $l5

Prime lambs met a buoyant demand at the, Addington market yesterday. With interest from an outside buyer, values showed a marked rise on last week’s rates, making the sale one of.the strongest of the winter.

In the prime sheep section, ewes had a strong sale, with values rising on last week’s rates. Young wethers, which were forward in very small numbers, were firm, but older wethers were stronger.

The sale included the first of the season’s spring lambs. Prices for the entry of 30 ranged from SB to $7.50. Prime cattle had a buoyant sale, the tops of the steers realising $205. Store cattle continued to sell strongly, but dairy cattle had a hard sale. Reflecting the strong market for pork and bacon, store pigs met a buoyant demand; weaners showed a further rise on recent good rates. Store Sheep Entries In the store sheep section rose by about 400 on last week. The yarding comprised 1750 breeding ewes, many of them with lambs at foot, and 300 store hoggets. A sizeable gallery followed the breeding ewe sale, and values for the better class of ewe continued to rise. However, farmers again showed little interest in the plainer, light-framed sheep. Ewes due to lamb shortly met an excellent sale, with several lots making from 10.00 to 17.05. Romneys appeared to sell just as freely as the Corriedales and

halfbreds. The yarding Included an annual consignment of shorn Romneys. These also met a strong inquiry, prices ranging from $4.90 to >5.50.

Six pens of ewes with lambs at foot were offered, and the best of them showed a rise on last week's rates. The best price of the day was *5, and there was another sale at 14.60. Quite a number of the ewes with lambs were low in condition, and with sales ranging from $2.35 to $3.20, they were barely up to recent rates. The store hogget yarding was the smallest of the winter. Buying inquiry was good, summershorn Romney wethers selling from $5.75 to $6.70. Values for medium to good lambs appeared to be 40c to 50c stranger. Sales of etore sheep included: Hoggets: A. Gray (Teddington). 50 Romney wethers at $6.70; L. P. Marlon (Weedons), 54 Romney ewes at $6.20.

Breeding ewes: G. C. J. Mason (Hawarden), 03 one-shear Romney- Corriedales al $9.20: Burdon Brothers (Geraldine), 159 Romneys at $6.20 to $6.80: R. J.
