NEW ROTARY CLUB

The eleventh Rotary club in the Christchurch area and the forty-fourth in the South Island has been formed at Belfast. As with most new Rotary clubs, it was sponsored by, and had its territory ceded to it by an existing club, in this case the Rotary Club of Papanui. The Belfast club was admitted to membership of Rotary International on April 2 with 27 charter members, 14 of whom had previously been members of the sponsoring club. On Saturday a dinner will be held for Rotarians and their wives, after which the charter of the new club will be presented by Mr S. Ombler, of Milton, district governor of the South Island, on behalf of the president of Rotary International. Officers of the new club are: President, Mr A. R. Gallagher; vice-president, Mr B. F. Johns; secretary, Mr N. C. Skevington; treasurer, Mr M. A. Mclver; directors, Messrs T. M. Banks, E. A. D. Bodger and J. W. Chilton; sergeant-at-arms, Mr W. A. Russell.
