SPEED MAIN OFFENCE

Intersection Campaign IN Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 1. A total of 3500 traffic offences at intersections was detected during the recent national "intersections campaign," the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) said today.

“These resulted in the issue of 1100 traffic offence notices, 300 written warnings, and 2100 verbal warnings by traffic officers in one week," the Minister said in a statement.

Examining the types of offences, Mr Gordon said 25 per cent of them involved exceeding the speed limits approaching intersections, 19 per cent were failures to stop at “stop” signs, and 13 per cent failures to signal an intention to turn or stop.
