Hawkes Wins Play-off

(N.Z. Pres/ Assn.—Copyright) LONDON.

R. N. Hawkes (New Zealand) and H. Irvine (Rhodesia) won the play-off for third place in the men’s group of the Hurlimann international tennis doubles tournament at Eastbourne on Friday, beating M. J. Sangster (Britain) and R. N. Howe (Australia), 6-4, 20-18, 6-4. The match, the best of five sets, lasted 2hr 37min. Most of the thrills came in the marathon second set, in which games went with service to 12-all—but was followed a remarkable run when six successive service games were lost.
