Electras Able To Cope With Traffic
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 30. Electra aircraft would be able to handle all passenger and cargo traffic in the near future on the Tasman run and through Wellington, Air New Zealand’s manager for the New Zealand region, Mr C. W. Beresford, said in Wellington today.
Passenger loads at the moment were about 65 per cent capacity, but the number of flights had been reduced because it was the off season. This figure was about the same as last year. Mr Beresford said many passengers could be carried with the same aircraft. There was still cargo capacity of between one ton and half a ton on most flights out of Wellington, except for the Melbourne route, he said. Although the airline had considered the possibility of an all-cargo plane for the Tasman run the amount of cargo did not justify serious
examination of it at this stage. Mr Beresford said the Electras were still very acceptable aircraft, and there was no reason why they could not keep flying for many years,
