Result Of A Merger
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines was formed on April 1, 1964, as the result of a merger between the Mitsui Steamship Co, Ltd, and the Osaka Shosen Kaisha Japan’s u? J* r * e shipping firms, which both boast a tradition of 80 years and a high international reputation. At ot “Wger Mitsui O.SJC. Lines owned 90 vessels (1,320,000 deadweight tons). Since its start as a new company, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has sought to modernise and strengthen its fleet. At the same time, it has agressively expanded its business by taking full advantage of the two former companies’ spheres of Influence and special features in their world-wide service network. The company’s earnings have steadily risen and the enterprise has acquired a sound business basis.
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines now owns 131 vessels aggregating 2,940,000 deadweight tons. This figure rises to 284 vessels, totalling 4,920,000 deadweight tons, when chartered and consignment vessels are added. The service provided by this fleet under the name of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines is known widely.
