TROTTING Spry Impressive In Addington Trial

Spry, one of the late workers, recorded one of the most impressive trials yesterday morning at Addington Raceway. Most of the horses being prepared for the Kurow meeting on Saturday week, and the national meeting which will start a week later at Addington Raceway, were restricted to solid work.

Trainers had the use of the main track next to the rails, but most of the horses worked about six feet out. The surface was firm, but the times were affected by a cold easterly wind.

Spry, which has probably never looked better, strode over 12 furlongs on his own In 3min 19sec, the last halfmile in Imin 5 l-ssec, and the final quarter in 31 3-ssec. He will probably resume racing in the National Handicap on August 23, and will race on September 6 at the New Brighton meeting before being prepared for the spring meeting at Hutt Park. Break Through, which looks to have had plenty of work, went easily throughout two miles in 4min 50 3-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin Bsec, and the final quarter in 32 4-ssec. Break Through will only have to trot solidly to be an early winner. Lustre Scott and' Lustre Boy were going solidly at the end of 12 furlongs in 3min 24 4-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 5 4-ssec, and the final quarter in 32 2-ssec. Both are being prepared for the national meeting. Lustre Boy has grown considerably since last season and he looks a likely type.

Major Bright and Maison took 3min 28 3-ssec for their 12 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 6sec, and the final quarter in 32sec. Maison, a rising four-year-old gelding by Celestial from Philosee, has improved considerably in the last few weeks. Darcy, which is booked to race at the Kurow meeting, went impressively over 12 furlongs in 3min 24 3-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 7 3-ssec, and the final quarter in 33sec. He looks close to worth-while form.

Mighty Chief and Refluent drew away from Hushabye at the end of 12 furlongs in 3min 22 2-ssec, the last halfmile in Imin 6 2-ssec, and the final quarter in 31 3-ssec.

Refluent will resume racing at the Kurow meeting. Mighty Chief has come to band well for L. R. Clark, but it is unlikely he will race before the New Brighton meeting on September 6. He will probably be restricted to sprint racing until the Dominion Handicap in November.

Looks Well Trampus, which will race at the national meeting in 2min 16sec class events, was not at top over two miles in 4min 36sec, the last half-mile in Imin 6sec, and the final quarter in 32sec. - Trampus has done well during the winter and he should not be long showing form. Stereo Scott worked well within herself over two miles in 4min 39 3-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 6sec. She was allowed a little more rein over the final quarter in 30 2-ssec. She looks to be carrying more condition than usual.

Clandeboye and Berkleigh worked keenly over 12 furlongs in 3min 22 l-ssec. They sped over their final four furlongs in Imin 4 3-ssec, the final quarter in 31 2-ssec. Both look in great heart to start another campaign. No definite plans have been made for Berkleigh, but it is possible he will miss the national meeting. He is one of the biggest horses in his age group, and is expected to be one of the hardest for Sam Tryax to beat in major spring classic events such as the New Zealand Derby Stakes.

Benmore and his threequarter sister by Fallacy, Lancaster Lady, went easily over 12 furlongs in 3min 37 2-ssec, the last, half-mile in Imin 9 2-ssec, and the final quarter in 33 4-ssec. Benmore may resume racing at the Kurow meeting. Aerial Morn and a three-year-old filly by King Creed from Firebell took 3min 35sec for 12 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin llsec. Aerial Morn will race at trials next week.

Dieman Lad loafed over 12 furlongs, speeding up to sprint his final quarter in 31 2-ssec. He is far from being a spent force and could pay his expenses at the national meeting.
