Appeal Against Gaol Term Lost

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 29. An appeal by Ross Dean McMahon, aged 23, an artist, against a nine-month sentence on four charges of receiving and one of possessing instruments of burglary, was dismissed by Mr Justice Speight today. Counsel for McMahon (Mr G. F. Little) said the term imposed by Mr C. E. H. Pledger, S.M., on each charge was to be concurrent, but it was to be cumulative on an 18month sentence imposed by Mr Justice Woodhouse for burglary. This meant McMahon faced a sentence of two years and three months, and he submitted that this was excessive.
