Police Arrive For Land Alienation
(N.Z. Pre»» Asm.—Copyright) PORT MORESBY, July 29. About 75 police today flew to Bougainville to guard Conzinc Riotinto workers who will start work on disputed lands on Friday.
The 600-acre piece of native-owned land at Rorovana, which C.R.A needs for a construction camp and storage area, will be compulsorily acquired by the Administration on Friday. The Administration failed
to persuade the owners to sell. The Administration fears that the Rorovana people may try to stop C.R.A workers clearing the land. The Administrator (Mr David Hay) described the police reinforcements, which includes a riot squad, as a “precautionary measure.” One DC3 with police aboard flew from Port Moresby and another from Mount Hagen to Kieta early this morning. A third plane-load tvas delayed until this afternoon because of engine trouble.
