FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A ridge of high pressure over the north Tasman Sea and North Island is moving north-east as a cold front approaches across the south Tasman Sea. Forecast: Canterbury.—North-westerlies, becoming strong inland and spreading to the coast at times during the day; some showers in the Alps, elsewhere cloudy; moderate temperatures. Marlborough.—North-west winds, becoming strong and gusty; fine, but with increasing high cloud; moderate temperatures. Nelson.—Westerly winds, fresh in exposed places; showers about the ranges, otherwise cloudy and cool. Buller and Westland.—Fresh north-west winds developing; cloudy and cool, with occasional showers. Outlook: showery in the west, mainly fair in the east.
