RING AND CIRCUIT
Motor-sport and boxing do not appear to have much in common, except, perhaps, to Denmark’s latest saloon racing champion, Tom Belso. Belso is as much at home in the ring as in a racing saloon. Sparring with the European light-heavyweight champion, T. Bogs, is one of the ways he keeps his reflexes in trim. Twice a week, Belso, who is aged 26, has a few brisk rounds with the boxing champion. In 1959 Belso faced a promising career in the boxing
ring, but after he suffered a broken leg in a fight he took to the racing circuits. Now he has completed more the 100 races and about 25 international rallies, and since 1967 he has driven Mustangs, Cortinas and Escorts for Ford of Denmark.
This year Belso is contesting the Danish saloon championship with an Escort twincam for the Ford DenmarkCastrol team. He has raced twice in Britain, and is expected to appear there again in the future.
