GRANT OF $7500
Ferrymead Plans
A new, multi-purpose building of between 10,000 and 14,000 square feet would probably be built with the Christchurch City Council grant of $7500 to the Ferrymead Trust, said the president of the trust (Mr G. L. Evans).
The building, planned for the Ferrymead historic reserve, would house a variety of exhibits, representing all the active member societies of the trust, he said.
“We are delighted with the grant. It is most generous and the first major grant we have had,” Mr Evans said. “Up to now we have been running on enthusiasm rather than cash, and yet a budget of projected expenditure drawn up earlier this year showed that we could well use $25,000 on improvements in the next 12 months,” he said.
The grant was made by the council at a meeting last Monday on the recommendation of the electricity committee and comes from profits of the Municipal Electricity Department’s showroom and wiring branch.
