Appeal Committee For Beef Scheme
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 28. The Government had set up an appeal committee for farmers who might be affected by certain apparent anomalies in the dairy beef incentive scheme, announced in the Budget, the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) said today.
An example of a farmer affected by such an anomaly would be one whose property did not supply butter fat last season, but who intended to produce this season, Mr Talboys said. Such a farmer would not strictly be eligible to participate in the scheme under the criteria laid down, but the Government had agreed that such a rigid interpretation would defeat the aims of the scheme to divert grass from milk production to beef. Therefore, said Mr Taiboys, any farmer who had doubts
about his eligibility for the scheme, or had had his application rejected and still believed he was eligible, could appeal to the DirectorGeneral of Agriculture, who would place his appeal before the committee. The committee will comprise the Director-General of Agriculture (or his nominee) and representatives of the Treasury and the Dairy Board. This committee would have discretionary power to deall with .special cases, Mr Talboys| said.
