ANTARCTIC RESEARCH

Fifth Woman In Party The fifth woman to be; Included in the United States Antarctic research programme is a third-year student at Ohio State University, Miss Terry Lee Tickhell. Miss Tickhell is 19. Four women scientists were named early last month. Miss Tickhell was chosen as a field assistant with the Ohio University party because she had the necessary qualifications and happened to be in the right place at the right time, said Dr Lois Jones, whose group will do field research in the windswept, ice-free valleys about 70 miles from McMurdo Station. Miss Tickhell says she hopes she has enough of a scientific background to be of real service to the university team. “If enthusiasm counts I should have no trouble,” she says.
